In search of pro-Americanism
Anne Applebaum explains how people were when the September 11 happens. She was in London, she tells how people react to her when they heard her accent or how people react to the attacks. She tells to us when she was in Poland a concert was play to honor the victims, even there wouldn’t be American in the audience. But later she explains the reaction of hate against American foreign policies. The anti-Americanism has grown over the years. But still most people are inspired in how the America help or was build. Anne gives us a list people who were inspire to the U.S independence, economic or freedom. Many people thank to the U.S government for many defeats as Saddam Hussein. Others who believe the American impact their country like Poland where remains more pro-American than any other country in Europe. Thanks to Reagan support to unity, Poland is member of European Union and they have more opportunities than ever. The article show different types of polls made to described how good or bad we are in international countries. These polls are from young to older; educated or not; rich to poor. It gives polls from china England or to Italy. They explain why the role of the United States is important to them including how bad it can be.
The American foreign Policy in a world; were the message isn’t not enough but sometimes the battle of diplomatic is important. Sometimes we go anti-America because military are implicated in another country; also we change a culture/the social life of someone but even more we become the super power of the global economic. We still got also pro thank how we saved people from the Nazis/communist. We meet a person from another country sometimes we find they like our culture. I read something early about how bad people like our foreign aid but hate our president and the independent foreign policy. Applebaum shows a reality of how bad is the situation in a foreign country. Our politics and economics are ideas that help survive many people or many nations. I believe it's not reasonable to blame us if the situation from a country gets worse because the first goal in the United States is to bring freedom and democratic but sometimes they fail. Many Anti-American think we should keep the military forces out of foreign land. But when something happen they are asking for our help, this something we shouldn’t let happens. I believe we should keep our forces in a poor country where they can’t protect their self as Africa. The polls show exactly the feeling about us, I think as the author write we shouldn’t help if they aren’t asking for out help. But we must influence them with goals that are important to us as rights, terrorism, ect.

The Africa's women
In Africa, Aids has a woman’s face.
Kofi a. Annan, the ex-secretary general if the United Nations write a article to the newspaper about how important is the woman for the grow and protection of Africa. He described the Women keep African societies going and whose work make up the economic foundation of rural communities. According to Kofi, a study has proved that woman play very important role in every aspect of development. Including the article mention having woman around can show excellent results. But the progresses are slowed thanks to the famine and aids. A report made by U.N showed the women now make up 50 percent infected with AIDS. They also explain that Aids are affecting more every day the life of every African. For example, the skills of farms or development of livelihoods including the productive to work a land is the lower as getting money to house. The women in Africa according to the article, they know how to survive a crisis like food shortage. Including the mention the woman’s pass a survival technique to the children. The epidemic is reducing thank to the prevention and education to the people of Africa. A report show that Aids in South Africa is declining and several others places.
The progress to reduce the Aids in anyplace in the words it all depend how people work around. This article shows the women work hard to survive the epidemic and dry lands. Without the help of international force it’s not possible to success. Keeping the hunger in control and Aids rate low is very important to anybody who lives in Africa. Because this people live in third world, the knowledge isn’t very enough to teach them how to prevent crisis. It’s sad for me that this women suffering every day with their families to death or having hunger in some way. Today woman are showing involving to the health or the income to protect their families. I agree with Kofi about aids sometimes is something that stop the process of having a good life. In Africa where the freedom and the resistance are sometimes is in crisis because it all depend the man side to protect the woman and children. Aids kill million of people, destroyed families because sometimes the parent dies leaving the children alone. Including its more sad when the parent dies and the sons or daughters will taken out of school to work in the home or farm. Having enough education can complicate more their lives. The woman in any part of the world is very important role to keep the family close. To end, I consider the recommendation from kofi to save Africa we must help and protect Africa’s women.

First English
Mother tongue, by Amy Tan.
In the article, “mother tongue’ described a woman who isn’t professor of English or literature but a writer. In the article that she wrote is about her critic her language, or how she behaving around people; especially her mother differently. Amy described to us the tongue of her mother. Amy speaks differently to her family than she speaks to people outside her house. Amy families are immigrant from China. Her mother was intelligent but had trouble with broken English, many described how much they understand her speech. Amy would have to speak for her because people wouldn't listen to her broken English. Amy brings in the article the term “limited English”, saying her knowledge wasn’t enough to communicate. She also how shame she was because her mother English wasn’t good. She gives examples of how they were treating outside her house because her mother English speech wasn’t good. But also how Amy helps her mother, for example, she described the reaction of every time when she calls to people and pretend it was her. On the SAT tests, she couldn't understand the grammar of English. Even thought her English wasn’t poor, she still doubts her English. According to a survey she found, Asian students are better on math than in English, so mostly they go into engineering, but she decides to break the circle and major in English.
This article gives an excellent example for immigrant families. When I read it the first time, it was for me very funny, she described the experiences it happen to my family. Amy described her live with her mother when she was very young. Her life wasn’t easy during her early days. But still she work hard to defend her mother from getting any discrimination. She gives many examples of how her life with her mother, theses example still happen to any immigrant family in the United States. Half of my family including my parent is from Mexico, most part they live here. But it wasn’t until I was born that my mother decides to learn English, the reason she decide to learn is because she want to understand everything they said to her about me, like teachers and doctors. While she was learning my older brothers and sister help her interpreter everything they said. No matter how long people spend learning English sometimes English natives are always looking for the perfect pronunciation. I was wonder if my pronunciation is good enough to satisfy theses people. It’s interesting in how Amy learn English. She described everything she learns from school and books, with limit of her mother. I didn’t have the same problem because my older brother/sister was advance in their English.

The American Dream
Waking up from the American dream
In the article “Waking up from the American dream” by Sasha Abramsky; writes how is the feeling of anti-American are fell outside of the country. She described the old American with the new America after cold war. How they change over the years. How a survey show the hate among the people is growing. She informs us about the opinions of few people about American of today. For example, the disagreement with the American government because the war with Iraq or also with the president of the United States. The most important, the influence of the American in the world. Sasha explains how the American grows over the 20th century or become a super power in the world. For Sasha the American forgot to paid attention to important issues. She gives some details of how the American cooperates with the world after the World War I and II. What was the reaction of the world after the attack on September 11, 2001. During the description she tell how the American could defend the attack because is the most powerful country in the world with greatest resources. But also how Britain or few countries in Europe where she grows mostly stands alone after the first two world wars. She believes the 20th century was the American century. But still she tells the American dream can be still alive among the outsider.
I think the article was very interesting because I never thought about the American dream after September 11. I assume the American dream is associated with the economic of our country. No matter the reaction of the government, the foreign still immigrate here because they feel safe and they feel secure financially. Sometimes the American reacts differently because is protecting the interest of the country. I agree with the author of how the American responds the attacks. The reputation of this country was in jeopardy. But I believe we got the right to focus more in our nation’s issues before others. Right now we having a crisis; it all depend we fixed we might continue having the American dream. The American influence in the world was based on defending the attacks against terrorist. The majority of the people in the world said the war against terror was a justification for the government to control the Middle East oil. I think the influence was lost because the republican government didn’t focus too much outside than Middle East, they should focus more in making more advertisement for freedom or democratic in third country . For example, American is losing control in Latin-American. Most government in Latin-American is more into socialist. I hope by the time Obama is finishing his first term he change the government from many courses so they can paid attention to outside world.

When I was growing up, I spent most of my life in Arizona. My parents decided to first put me in an English school in an attempt to make sure everyone in my family received the best education possible. Later on, because of my hearing problem, I became the only one in my family to be moved and attend a bilingual school. My parents decided to put me there so I could grow up understanding both Spanish and English- the two most spoken languages in Arizona. Later on, in 2000, Arizona passed a law saying only English was to be taught in schools, however, I was allowed to continue with bilingual education because my parents filed a waiver. My older brothers and sisters were required to continue with just the English education though. I remember it happening because many people in Arizona thought teachers were not teaching English very much (Rovira). Others believed it should be banned because our founding fathers built America speaking English. But we forgot that the North America continent was already bilingual even before the English arrived, thanks to the Spanish colonies. Every year we hear more and more languages spoken more in the US, such as Spanish, Asian dialects, and European languages at the same time we speak English. Most American natives are worried English will disappear in a while, or a least not be spoken here. I protest the removal of bilingual education in public schools. Not because I am a Spanish native, but because it affects the education of the thousands of students who are not included, it affects the future and culture of every student in America. When I moved to Iowa during high school, I saw that not every school in the state offered bilingual education. Even though I already knew English very well, I still wanted to keep practicing my second languages in school. Some states do not offer bilingual education because they think it is not necessary to learn another language. The only bilingual classes they offer are the elective classes such as Spanish and French that are required to be taken for some colleges. But Iowa schools do not offer bilingual education in math, science, or history classes as they do in Arizona for several students. Schools should encourage students to learn a foreign language not because is required for colleges, but because it can help communication to other cultures that do not speak English at all. For example, Hattie Evan and her son hailed a taxi, but the driver did not speak English; her son speaks Spanish so he helped his mother to talk to him in Spanish. He spoke Spanish to him and told him the directions (Holloway). Learning another language is helpful, especially in an emergency moment.Learning another language is not going to affect proficiency in the English language. If the school teaches English and foreign languages with a good education system, they can become very successful. For example, Amistad dual school teaches students subjects first in Spanish, and then in English. Also, the school mixes the English natives and Latino students so they can learn from each other (Holloway). According to Kathryn Kohnert, English is spoken as second language globally. But in the United States, the foreigners speak English as a second language, while the natives of American speak English as first. But the native English speakers in the United States are trying to learn foreign languages such as Spanish, Chinese, sign language, or any other languages as a second languages (Kohnert). “For English speaking students, it helps them acquire a second language with relative ease and it places equal value on languages and heritages, which allows students to explore different cultures from an early age (Holloway). Learning a second language means opening up their horizons to the richness of cultural diversity and becoming active participants in today's global society (Rovira)."According to Lourdes Rovira, “the United States can no longer afford to remain a monolingual country in a multilingual world. Being bilingual and biliterate not only gives people a political and economic advantage, it also allows them to be bridges between people of different cultures”. For years, there has been a debate on whether or not to put bilingual education in public schools. "Most Americans look upon the English language as the number one factor that defines our national identity” (Schlafly). In California proposition 227 was passed, terminating bilingual education; it was sad day for the country ( Rovira). People of today should not be worried about English. Because English has been the most common language that has united the immigrants from all over the world (Rovira). We believe everyone should learn a language. Rovira mentioned the majority of the people outside of the United States are bilingual. We should not close the possibility of learning other languages because languages expand people's cognitive development (Rovira). In the article by Phyllis Schlafly, the president elect Barack Obama, mentioned that instead of worrying about whether immigrants can learn English, we should focus on our children speaking foreign languages. He also mentioned that it is embarrassing when Europeans come here and can speak fluent English, but when we travel to Europe we can’t speak their languages (Schalafly). Countries that are very well developed can speak English. For example, I went to Greece in 2006, every where I walk the people speak to me English and not the creek language. As conclusion, learning another language is something we should be proud to do for our self because we showing to the world we can be compete against others. Learning another is always a good option. People can get jobs more easily, especially that our economic is global everything is connected each part of the world. Here in the United States, we should be proud we can learn any language because we live in a country where thousands cultures live here. If we continue thinking that English only should be speak here. I believe that the language we die sooner than it will stay alive. For example, I believe the Latin language dies because it never changes during the medieval ages. We must keep mixed English with foreign language to keep it alive. We can still be proud to be American and still speak seven languages. We must show the world that we still the United State is still the leader on education.
